What to do with my OpenMoko
Since the moment my ex-girlfriend got pissed about the buzzing of my OpenMoko Freerunner, i switched to a simple phone and haven’t touched the Freerunner much.
Buzz-fixing parties are appearing all over the world, unfortunately all way to far from home.
The stuff the community developed for and spend time on has allways pissed me off.
And now OpenMoko announced they won’t continue developing a phone.
What to do with my OpenMoko now? Well, i’ve got an idea.
Instead of thinking about it as a phone, think about what other stuff it would be good for. It’s got wireless, GPS, a 640×480 touchscreen LCD, a phone device, and is capable of running a full Linux OS.
The most interesting parts here, are the phone device, the GPS, and the touchscreen LCD.
- Timeserver, having a Stratum 1 cause it can synchronise with GPS!
- Network monitor, having it display stats on the screen switchable with a touch.
- System monitor, sending you an SMS when an alert raises. Hey, it even has it’s own UPS!
- Music console/media box controller (thanks to sleipnir).
- Mail checker/display (thanks to sleipnir).
